70 The First Broadcasting House

114 Moshe Dayan Rd.

Renovation architects: Tovi Gal Architects, 2024

A chance to become familiar with one of the most important local buildings in the history of the State of Israel. It was commonly known as the Tel Haim Station, and it was from here that the Declaration of Independence was broadcast on 5 Iyar 5708 – May 14, 1948. Following the establishment of the State, it housed the first broadcasting station of the Voice of Israel.

During the tours, participants will hear about the construction of the transmitters that were used for broadcasting purposes – initially run as a covert operation under the watchful eye of the British authorities. They will also hear the story behind the structure itself, which was built clandestinely on the remnants of a cistern and Templer farm building.

Since its renovation by the Municipality, the building has served as a radio facility that is used by a community of residents who specialize in radio technology, voice and music. Its history is also presented to the public in an engaging manner.

The tours will be led the architect Ran Baram from the Engineering Administration at the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality. As an amateur radio operator and a resident of the neighborhood, Baram actively advocated for the restoration and renovation of the site. He will be joined by the architect Tovi Gal, who was in charge of the building’s restoration and its interior design.
