013 Surrounding the Entrance Gate to Old Jaffa

Meeting place: Clock Square

A two-hour tour with the architect and historian, Shmuel Giller, who is an expert on the history of Jaffa. He will recount the story about the main gate through which everyone and everything at the time entered the city, which is also known as Jerusalem Gate (because the road to Jerusalem left from it – present-day Beit HaEshel Street and Ben Zvi Road). Giller will also talk about the sites surrounding the gate: Jaffa’s old markets which disappeared one morning in 1915, the sabil which was the city’s pride and joy, the first Jewish market, the small hammam (Turkish bath), and more.
