The Jaffa Land Slope

Meet landscape architect Aliza Braudo who is in charge of the Jaffa Landfill project, Israel’s largest recycling project ever: 1 million square cubic meters of soil were recycled and cleared away in order to create a beach park with continuity and open views from the neighborhood toward the sea. Tour runs 1 hour.

Mikve Israel Agricultural School
Meeting point: Under the Bengali Ficus tree, north of synagogue.

Two tours led by Aviva Schwartz, in one of the most unique “green lungs” of the greater Tel Aviv Metropolitan area (Gush Dan). A nature reserve with green meadows, groves and gardens circling historical sites and 19th century buildings. Tour will pass by the Palm Boulevard, the Bengali Ficus, the synagogues and the underground stone caves, a testimony to the old Mikve Israel vineyard. Tour runs 2 hours.

City council member Rachel Gilad-Wellner, and landscape architect Ram Eisenberg, will venture to the Northern part of the city, hiking along different paths. The tour will swing by the currently empty Municipal Funeral House, move on to the Fire Fighters Station and will end at the city’s edge - the Tzuk beach.

The Ariel Sharon Park Belt
Meeting point: the Artificial Lake at Park Darom (Menahem Being Park).

Hike with Shlomo “the Berl” Berger, along the Ayalon river, going eastbound (along the northern bank) and back. On the way - climb on to the Hiria Mountain and enjoy a view of the entire Gush Dan - The Great Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area, as well as detailed review of Hiria’s history and current affairs. Track length: 20 kms. Difficulty level: Easy.

Meeting point: 1 Hasolelim st., corner of 12 Derech Hashalom, Tel Aviv.

Architect Itay Horwitz from the “Israel For Bicycle” organization, will guide you along an easy hike through the neighborhoods that lie across the Ayalon river/highway, presenting the surprising variety of construction textures and parks, found in the area. Tour will end at Ayalon park but bikers can roll on to the developing Ariel Sharon Park.

Under the Nose: Pi-Gliloth

The Pi-Gliloth (literally: Gliloth mouth/entrance) compound, sprawls over 175000 sq` m` and is one of the few remaining “virgin” real estate patches in Israel’s coveted center region. This virgin land patch is about to undergo a massive urban development in the near future. The tour, guided by Daniel Rosenblat, will pass by protected seasonal wild flower fields, swing by archeological sites, reveal the uniqueness of this piece of nature which lies right under our nose, and relate to environmental struggles against the local urban development plans.
Difficulty level: easy. * The tour passes by a bee hive.

Architect Rinat Miloh from the Building Preservation Department at the Tel-Aviv-Jaffa Municipality and architect Shirly Hovav , will guide you through one of the largest compounds in the city: the most prestigious private hospital of its time. Tour will pass through the public buildings slated for preservation and the exquisitely designed garden. Tour runs 1 hour.

Emanuel House (Baron’s Palace)

Come hear the story of one of the most interesting houses in the American Colony, built as a two-story log cabin and used as a English girls school, Russian palace, hospital for the poor, luxury hotel and military office. Today it is a hostel for evangelical Jews. Don’t miss the Bengali Fichus tree in the garden and the green parrots that live in its branches.
